This project began with me asking myself a few questions: What makes me emotional? What do I do when I want to feel something? What inspires me? Two answers immediately popped into my head: music and painting. Both of these things have gotten me through some of the hardest times, and have been there with me to make the best times even better. I chose five albums that have influenced me throughout my life and decided to paint redesigns of their album covers all under one overarching theme, sticking with the same color palettes as the original covers. The theme I chose to unite them was "modes of transportation" because listening to each collection of songs instantly takes me away to different feelings, places, and times. The albums are as follows: "Swimming" by Mac Miller, "A Night at the Opera" by Queen, "Cleopatra" by The Lumineers, "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" by Kanye West, and "Where the Light Is" by Surfaces. These albums all portray human emotion in such a raw and unapologetic way, which is why they resonate with me so much. While painting variations of each cover, I listened to the album on repeat so I could truly get a handle on the emotions portrayed and showcase those same feelings in the paintings you see here.
